Current student FAQs

Q: Is ARU College still teaching?
A: Yes. Our lecturers are using a variety of methods to teach their material online. Live online classes are held on a platform called Zoom. The sessions are recorded for those students who are unable to attend. We highly recommend attending these classes where possible. All learning material, activities and links are posted on Moodle and students can work through this in their own time. Lecturers are available to discuss the material either via email, during discussion forums and in the face to face sessions.

Q: Is the library open on campus?
A: Our library buildings will be closed, but our library team is offering support online. You can access online resources, speak to Subject Librarians and book a virtual appointment. There are more information and resources on the ARU Library website.

Q: How is ARU College supporting current international students who are now studying online?

Q: Will online attendance be monitored?
AYes, attendance will continue to be monitored in online classes and teachers will continue to take registers.

Q: Will there still be exams this semester?
A: All assessments will be replaced with similar activities that students can complete online.

Q: How are ARU College supporting students who suspect they have COVID-19?
A: We would like to reassure you that you can stay in ARU accommodation or Student Castle for as long as you need to. If you are unwell, please follow NHS advice and contact the college on support@cric.anglia.ac.uk. If you are on campus or in University-owned student accommodation and in distress please use SafeZone to alert ARU Security (who are remaining on-site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week). SafeZone makes it easy for you to get help or request assistance any time you’re on campus or in University-owned student accommodation.

Q: As a current student in the UK, are Covid-19 diagnoses and treatments covered by the NHS Health Surcharge?
A: All lawful, non-visitor migrants to the UK gain access to the National Health Service and medical treatment free at the point of use. This includes treatment that is medically required in relation to Covid-19.

Q: How will ARU College support students who want to stay on-campus during the closure of campus?
A: If you’re staying in ARU accommodation or Student Castle, there’s support on hand and you’re welcome to stay for as long as you need to.

Our Security and Estates and Facilities teams are here to make sure you’re safe.

ARU is also introducing a new Staff Buddy scheme. If you’d like to check in with a member of staff who can support you with general advice and signposting, simply email experience@anglia.ac.uk.

For all students who are remaining on campus a new closed Facebook group, ARU Together, has been set up. To join please visit Facebook group ARU Together.  Over 100 students have already joined.

As always, your health and wellbeing are paramount. You can contact your Faculty or Counselling and Wellbeing team and use the information shared on our Health and Wellbeing web pages. Please make sure you talk to your loved ones on a regular basis.

Counselling is on offer by phone or video call; register online for an appointment.

The Employability Service is offering virtual drop-ins via Skype or phone. Email employability@aru.ac.uk to book.

In response to the coronavirus COVID-19 situation, we have increased our hardship fund provision and depending on your circumstances you may be able to access a new laptop bursary hardship grants and provision of emergency loans.

Once again, please be assured that we will be doing everything we can to help you continue your studies and complete your courses. Our students are our absolute priority, and we will do everything possible to support you over the coming weeks.

Q: How will ARU College support students who stay off-campus during the closure of campus?
A: You can contact the following teams for online and remote support, and follow updates on our Student News blog for further information.

Q: I want to return home during the closure, what is the process for deferral of study?
A: All students are now ok to go home and continue with their studies online. If the student doesn’t want to continue with the online version of the course, they can choose to intermit as usual.

Q: What impact will this have on my Student Route visa?
A: If the student does carry out a deferral as normal, the student’s visa will be curtailed, and the student will have to apply for a new Student Route visa to return – but due to the current situation TRI2 & TRI3 will be online still

Q: I am having issues paying for next semester fees, can you help?
A: If you are having difficulties paying your fees, please contact us to discuss payment plans. We will help you set up a payment plan you can afford. You can e-mail us to support@cric.anglia.ac.uk.
