10 Things to do in Cambridge this Winter!

December is just around the corner and like most of us, you may be wondering what you can do to get in the Christmas spirit or how to make the most of winter 2022 in the UK. If you’re studying with us on our Cambridge campus and are looking for things to give involved with this festive season, then look no further! We’ve got you covered as we’ve found 10 amazing things you can do in and around Cambridge over the festive period.

  1. Check out the Christmas Lights

Some of the best Christmas lights that we would recommend in Cambridge include the John Lewis window display, Christmas lights on Rose Crescent, and the giant tree outside of the train station.

Join us from 5-7 in MAB 221 (Chelmsford) and LAB 214 (Cambridge) to sit back and enjoy a festive favourite on the big screen! Film to be voted and decided by you! After two long years, the 2022 Mill Road Winter Fair will take place on Saturday 3rd December. You can expect live music, craft stalls, hot food, and mulled wine.

  1. Have a go at making a traditional Christmas dinner

If you don’t want to brave the cold weather and staying in is more your thing, why not have a go at cooking a traditional English Christmas dinner. You can host for your family, friends or housemates or simply treat yourself!

  1. Watch a pantomime

Pantomimes are a traditional English festive activity that take place around the Christmas period and are nearly always based on well-known children’s stories such as Peter Pan, Aladdin, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty. This year, the Cambridge Arts Theatre is showing ‘Dick Whittington and his Cat’ from Thursday 1st December – Sunday 8th January.

  1. Christmas at Wimpole

Attend the brand new after-dark illuminated trail through festive gardens at the National Trust’s Wimpole in Royston, Cambridge. Walk under the start and witness the impressive Christmas lights whilst drinking a hot chocolate or enjoying food from the many food vendors. Find out more about this here.

  1. Join us for Christmas Cookie decorating

On Wednesday 7th December ARU College will be hosting cookie decorating during our regular cake hour slot (1pm-2pm). 1. Visit a museum

Hide from the rainy British weather and visit one of Cambridge’s many museums, such as The Fitzwilliam Museum, Museum of Cambridge, or The Polar Museum.

  1. Christmas Carols

Traditionally sung at Christmas itself or during the surrounding Christmas holiday season, Christmas Carols go hand in hand with a traditional British Christmas. You can find Christmas Carol services in most churches across Cambridge, including: A Christmas Celebration at Jesus College, University of Cambridge.
