5 Things to do in Cambridge or Chelmsford this Festive Period

Staying in Chelmsford or Cambridge for the holidays? Or want to fit in some last-minute festive activities before you head home? Here’s 5 festive activities to enjoy in either city for 2023:

Chelmsford:

  1. Ice-skating
    Fancy a picturesque winter activity? Riverside Ice and Leisure is 10-minute walk from campus and for under £10 per person you could have a go at ice-skating!
  2. Chelmsford Winter Market
    Head to the on-campus Christmas Market on Thursday 7 December (11:00 – 15:00) outside the Tindal Building. A free event where you can browse at the stalls, grab some refreshments and chill out.
  3. Central Park
    Enjoy a winter stroll or a brisk walk through Central Park. Take in the seasonal scenery, enjoy the crisp air, and perhaps grab a hot drink and cake from the Central Park café.
  4. Chelmsford Cathedral
    Visit Chelmsford Cathedral, which often hosts various Christmas events and concerts during the festive season. Check their schedule for free or affordable events.
  5. Find a Cosy Pub
    Pubs have a special spot in heritage and culture of the UK. Find a cosy pub, order your favourite drink, and spend some time by the fireplace! You’ll find some pubs offer board games and books for you to choose from.

 

Cambridge:

  1.  Cambridge Winter Market
    Head to the on-campus Christmas Market on Wednesday 6 December (10:00 – 15:00) on the Ruskin Courtyard. A free event where you can browse at the stalls, grab some refreshments and chill out.
  2. Check out the Christmas Lights
    Search the streets for some fantastic Christmas lights! Stroll through the city centre in the evening to view the festive lights in all their glory. Grab yourself a hot drink on the way to add to the festive feel.
  3. Shopping in the Grand Arcade
    Seek shelter from the unpredictable weather inside the Grand Arcade. Enjoy some shopping and grab yourself a drink or bite to eat in one of the many restaurants and cafes (e.g., Bubbleology, Café Nero, Carluccio’s, Ed’s Diner).

  4. Find a Cosy Pub
    Pubs have a special spot in heritage and culture of the UK. Find a cosy pub, order your favourite drink, and spend some time by the fireplace! You’ll find some pubs offer board games and books for you to choose from.
  5. Ice-skating
    Create some memorable moments at Cambridge Ice Rink. For less than £15 you can have a go at ice-skating, a classic seasonal activity, and then relax in the café with a hot drink after.
